[edit] Empire careers

Have Bandit and Soldier been confirmed as careers somewhere, or have I missed something here? As far as I know, only Warrior Priest and Bright Wizard have been confirmed. Pendrako 17:30, 27 October 2006 (CDT)

I can't say that they're adamantly confirmed. I don't even think those will be the final titles (they don't sound in tune with the confirmed two). However, they're the other two types of characters portrayed in the newsletter along with the confirmed ones (labeled NPCs, but I have a hunch that most of the concept art done so far is player-related). At any rate, I figure that if my speculation at this point is wrong, it is no big loss. --Bishop 17:50, 27 October 2006 (CDT)
In the latest gamespy interview videos, Paul Barnett confirms that the Bandit won't be a playable career. I think fot the time being we should stick to the confirmed facts, and leave the other Empire careers unkown as with Chaos. --Pendrako 02:55, 5 December 2006 (CST)
Works for me. --Bishop 14:06, 5 December 2006 (CST)

[edit] No healers

I've been using "healer" as a class archetype so far, but I think that it'll be more appropriate to use "support" instead, which should be more in line with what Mythic are planning for those classes. --Pendrako 05:39, 5 May 2007 (CDT)

[edit] Ordering

Shouldn't it be ordered differently? Like:

Order

  1. Engineer
  2. Hammerer
  3. Ironbreaker
  4. Runepriest
  1. Bright Wizard
  2. Warrior Priest
  3. Knight of the Blazing Sun
  4. Witch Hunter
  1. Unknown
  2. Unknown
  3. Unknown
  4. Unknown

Destruction

  1. Chosen
  2. Magus
  3. Zealot
  4. Marauder
  1. Unknown
  2. Unknown
  3. Unknown
  4. Unknown

Ordered like that, so it shows who is on what side of the war, and the way that is ordered, it shows Greenskins vs Dwarves and ect. Forgot to sign Nilator 11:32, 21 August 2007 (CDT)

Sure, if you like that better. I imagine that someone will come along and format it into a nice table at some point (maybe after we know all the names). But feel free to mix it up like you suggest for now. --Bishop 14:10, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
Then I would suggest the following changes too. The concept here is No 1 is tank type career while 2 is melee, 3 is range and 4 is supporting type. --Wiks 03:17, 22 August 2007 (CDT)

*The Oathbearers

  1. Hammerer
  2. Ironbreaker
  3. Engineer
  4. Runepriest
  1. Knight of the Blazing Sun
  2. Witch Hunter
  3. Bright Wizard
  4. Warrior Priest

Destruction

  1. Chosen
  2. Marauder
  3. Magus
  4. Zealot
Great timing to bring this up - I was planning on turning the careers into a proper table as soon as they released the elf classes... which are now out! (as of 2 hours ago) --Pendrako talk 06:36, 22 August 2007 (CDT)
Nifty work, Pendrako. I like it. --Bishop 10:18, 22 August 2007 (CDT)

[edit] White Lions

As far as speculation for the final High Elf career goes, if White Lions aren't the melee career then you can paint me purple and call me a halfling. --Pendrako talk 12:52, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I believe it shouldn't be added here until it is official, however obvious it may be. --Bfx 18:38, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Phoenix Guard. Mostly because I've already bought a bucket of purple paint and the fake fur feet... --Bishop 09:31, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
On an almost unrelated note, would it be the most awesome class ever in an MMO if they made the Phoenix Guard playable, but unable to talk? --Bishop 09:35, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Get away from me with that brush... - Pendrako talk 00:44, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I just rolled back my own edit because I found the near-official-enough source. Fun times. And unfortunately, I don't get to paint pendrako's feet. White Lions are in. » Bishop · talk « 21:18, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ability template

I don't know all the Wiki mechanics and this might not be very relevant since there isn't so many abilities out yet, but would it be possible to create a template that automatically makes a list with all the careers abilities, if you make categories for all the skills, so that all articles that goes under the category "IronbreakerTactics" will go under the "Tactics" headline on the template that is on the Ironbreaker article. Best if there's only one template but it loads titles from different categories according to which career it is for. Since we don't have so many skills and such it maybe isn't something of current interest, but for the future Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 20:09, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Seems like a really good idea that could save us some work, also I'm wondering if there is any template for the Ability/Spell/Action/Tactic/etc pages. 85.8.18.241 10:33, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
No, there isn't but I think it have been discussed. Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 14:30, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
We need to be careful not to get too template-happy. Templates are useful for a select few things, but most articles should be as close to plain as possible. The easier the markup, the more people are able to contribute. » Bishop · talk « 15:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Well yes, the built-in wiki-templates should not be overused, but a simple template (a basic layout that should tried to be followed on all spell pages) could be created and copy-pasted onto every spell page... I hope you know what I am talking about? It is really messy when all spell pages look different from eachother.~ Gigaboost- 16:57, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Certainly, at some point we'll need to standardize the way skill/tactic/whatnot pages look. Unfortunately, while I am okay with wiki-markup, I'm not much of a layout'er. Hopefully someone will come along at some point who is. » Bishop · talk « 18:17, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
This might be something that is better served with a Style and formatting guide. It should be easy enough to set up a template to lay everything out nicely, but only if the data on each page is consistent. There's still a lot of info about skills and abilities that we don't know yet, so this is definitely something we can keep on the back burner.
In the meantime, it might be worth putting together a proper Style and formatting guide for careers, which I've started here. If you see anything else that should be included, add it to the article's talk page. -- Pendrako talk 00:21, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Pendrako, that was exactly what I meant when I said template, go make one of those for abilites/tactics etc. ~ Gigaboost- 22:11, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Template?

I was thinking we could replace the current template with something like this:

Army Archetype
Tank Melee DPS Ranged DPS Support
Order of the Griffon Knight of the Blazing Sun Witch Hunter Bright Wizard Warrior Priest

It seems a little neater looking, but not being an ace editor ;) - I don't know how to pretty it up in colour and make the borders nice (i just added some random default borders for now) - could someone do that? ~ Revoran 11:20, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Equivalencies

I read in a preview the other day that at least some of the classes have equivalents on the opposing side. For example, the Dwarf Engineer and the Chaos Magus have the same basic mechanics. Would it be worth it to add a list of the equivalences to the careers page? That way people who are sampling classes will know which ones are the same on the other side. The preceding unsigned comment was made by Rafeco (contribs) .

I agree. There's a list then, I haven't played many careers yet so feel free to modify the table in case I wrote anything wrong:
  Order Destruction
Tank Ironbreaker Black Orc
Chosen Swordmaster
Knight of the Blazing Sun Black Guard
Melee DPS Hammerer Choppa
Witch Hunter Witch Elf
White Lion ? Marauder ?
Ranged DPS Engineer Magus
Bright Wizard Sorcerer
Shadow Warrior ? Squig Herder ?
Support Runepriest Zealot
Warrior Priest Disciple of Khaine
Archmage Shaman

[edit] Equivalencies, and Support

Given some of the changes that were made to this article, it seemed necessary to restructure it. I also changed Support back to Healer, and Ranged and Melee to Ranged DPS and Melee DPS, as this is specifically what it says in the game, its manual, and Mythic's discussions of the classes.

I think an equivalencies table would be very helpful to players who are switching sides of the war, as long as it is kept in mind that some classes do not have direct equivalencies. Squig Herder and White Lion for example both have mobile pets, and a few similar abilities, but are not equivalent, or even in the same archetype.
