Sorceress

The Sorceress or Sorcerer (a female or male career) is a spellcaster in the Dark Elf army of House Uthorin, fulfilling the ranged DPS archetype role. The Sorceress is a potent user of Dhar or Dark Magic -all the winds forcefully mashed together. This causes immense damage to her enemies, but also attracts malevolent spirits and has the potential to recoil and harm the caster. The Sorceress is paired with the Bright Wizard.

It is easy to assume from the uncompassionate brutality of the Dark Elves that they are somehow backwards and unlearned, but this is far from the case. A prime example of this are the Sorceresses, who are extremely well bred, yet at the same time, posses the violent and destructive urges of all Druchii. In the ranks of the Dark Elves, Sorceresses (and Sorcerers) are the most powerful, commanding Dhar with very deadly conclusions. These are the dark sages, the ones who unraveled the vortex during The Sundering, and are responsible for the creation of the Black Arks, the titanic floating Dark Elven cities that were used to save the Dark Elves from being enveloped in the ensuing chaos.

On the battlefield, Sorceresses destroy whole legions of warriors with the slightest movement of their hand. In the Warhammer Lore, apart from the first Sorcerers who allied with Malekith during the Sundering, male Sorcerers are technically banished from Naggaroth and are hunted and killed by the convents of Sorceresses. This is due to a prophecy the Elf mage Caledor Dragontamer gave when Aenarion drew the Sword of Khaine: "A 'Dark Lord' (whom Malekith believes to be himself) would die at that hands of one 'skilled in the Dark Arts'." However in the Age of Reckoning Malekith has announced an amnesty on male Sorcerers, as long as they join the forces taking part in the invasion of Ulthuan.

Sorceresses and Sorcerers are the ranged combatants of the Dark Elves. Replacing martial prowess with cunning and magical acumen, they are adepts standing far away from the chaos of battle, and raining death and decay upon their enemies. They can equally inflict huge pain upon an opponent in an instant, or a slow torturous death, watching and laughing as their enemies waste away. The Sorceress has a wide range of abilities, made all the deadlier by their ability to gather Dhar around them to increase their destructive power, unleashing unrelenting spells of destruction on their opponents. This career will be most appealing to players who prefer to stay at range and deal huge amounts of damage. The Sorceress is paired with the Bright Wizard

The Sorceress can tap into the raw Chaos energy of Dhar to fuel her spells. Dark Magic spells tend to be highly destructive, and the Sorceress is able to cast them quickly over a large area, unleashing powerful bursts of damage. Over-use of Dark Magic comes at a cost, however. Channeling more and more Dark Magic gives a bonus to the chance of getting a critical hit with her spells, but should she channel too much, there is a risk that she will suffer a damaging backlash of magic energy.

Becoming an accomplished Sorceress involves moderating your use of Dark Magic by careful selection of spells to cast, alternating the more powerful, dangerous spells with those of a safer nature. The following table shows the Dhar level vs. Bonus chance to critical hit vs. chance of a miscast spell (called "Backlash").

  • Focuses damage on a single target.
  • A good mix of fast & slow casting spells.
  • Moderately risky to play.

  • Focuses on doing large amounts of damage slowly over time (DOTs).
  • Extremely fast casting spells.
  • Lowest risk to the caster.
  • Also capable of casting many debilitating effects to help the group.

  • Lays waste to large areas with potent Dark Magic (AoEs).
  • Requires the player to get in close to fight for full effect.
  • Highest risk to caster.
  • Tends to blow herself up as much as everyone else around her!

Daemonic Chill Everyone in your group is surrounded by a demonic chill for 1 hour‚ giving them a 25% chance to deal 10 Corporeal damage back against the attacker when they are struck by a melee attack.


Dread Aspect You Detaunt your target‚ making him hate you less and causing them to deal 50% less damage to you for 15 seconds. If you attack anyone that you have Detaunted‚ the effect will immediately end.


Word Of Pain Reduces your targets Willpower by 25 for 10 seconds‚ and can be stacked up to 3 times. When this effect ends‚ the victim will suffer 200 Spirit damage for each application that was stacked.


Frozen Touch Everyone in your group is filled with dark energy for 1 hour‚ giving them a 25% chance to deal an additional 100 damage any time they deal damage.


Vision Of Torment A Curse which causes the enemy to lose 50 Action Points over 5 seconds. When this effect ends‚ he will suffer 166 Spirit damage.


Shattered Shadows Deals 250 Spirit damage to your target and all other enemies within 20 feet of him. Has a chance to cause a Backlash‚ damaging you.


Impending Doom Only usable on a target that is Cursed. A powerful blast that deals 350 Spirit damage to your target. If this blast does not kill the target‚ then you will suffer a Backlash.


Grip Of Fear All enemies within 30 feet become Rooted‚ making them unable to move for 5 seconds. 50% Chance that any damage dealt to them during this time has a chance of dispelling the root.


Obsessive Focus You become obsessed with your target for 20 seconds‚ dealing 10% more damage to him‚ but 10% less damage to everyone else. Even if the target dies‚ your obsession will persist for the full duration.


Stricken Limbs Deals 150 Corporeal damage to your target and Disarms him for 5 seconds‚ making him unable to use melee and ranged abilities. Has a chance to cause a Backlash‚ damaging you!


Surging Pain Deals 100 Corporeal damage to all enemies within 30 feet. Has a chance to cause a Backlash‚ damaging you!


Shroud Of Darkness Increases all of your resistances by 378 for 15 seconds.


Shadow Spike All enemies in front of you‚ up to 65 feet away‚ suffer a Curse which deals 460 Corporeal damage over 15 seconds.


Pit Of Shades A 20 feet pit of shadow covers the ground at a point that you select for 10 seconds. Any enemy who enters the area will suffer 199 Spirit damage every 0 seconds.


Reckless Gathering You consume power from the Winds Of Magic for up to 5 seconds‚ gaining 40 Action Points per second as long as you maintain your concentration. While you are concentrating on this spell‚ your Initiative is reduced by 80‚ and if you suffer any damage you will be knocked down for 3 seconds.


Infernal Wave A cone of energy strikes enemies in front of you‚ up to 65 feet away‚ dealing 150 Spirit damage. Has a chance to cause a Backlash‚ damaging you!


Stricken Voices Deals 166 Corporeal damage to your target and Silences all enemies within 20 feet of him‚ making them unable to use magic abilities for 5 seconds. Has a chance to cause a Miscast‚ damaging you and wiping out all of your Dark Magic!


Fragile Knowledge Increases your Intelligence by 80‚ but reduces your Toughness by 40.


Infernal Gift Any time you hit an enemy there is a 10% chance that your group will gain an Infernal Gift‚ increasing all damage they deal by 10% for 5 seconds.


Grasping Darkness Doombolt and Chillwind gain a 25% chance to Snare your target for 3 seconds‚ reducing their run speed by 25%.


Powersurge You regain 1 additional action point each second for every 10% Dark Magic you have.


Triumphant Blasting Any time you critically hit with Doombolt or Shadow Knives‚ you will deal 25% more bonus critical damage.


Stricken Forever The effects of Stricken Limbs and Stricken Voices will now last for 5 seconds.


Swift Retreat Any time you are hit by a melee attack‚ there is a 25% chance your run speed will be increased by 25% for 2 seconds.


Easing Darkness Umbral Strikes and Demonic Chill no longer cost any action points to cast.


Dire Blast Deals 600 damage to your target immediately‚ and another 603 damage over 9 seconds.


Wind-Woven Shell Everyone in your group takes 20% less damage for 20 seconds.


Darkstar Cloak None of your abilities will consume action points for 10 seconds.


Recover Energy Gloomburst and Doombolt have a 25% chance to restore 50 action points.


Echo Of Power Only usable after an enemy has Disrupted one of your spells. An instant blast of magic that deals 225 Corporeal damage to your target and can not be defended against. Has a chance to cause a Miscast‚ damaging you and wiping out all of your Dark Magic!


Tapping The Dark

Cataclysmic Darkness A slow but powerful spell which deals 299 Spirit damage to your target‚ and inflicts a Curse upon them which snares them for 5 seconds‚ reducing their run speed by 80%.


Swell Of Gloom Gloomburst will now deal an additional 50 Corporeal damage‚ and build an additional 5% Dark Magic.


Shades Of Death The next 5 attacks which hit the target within 10 seconds will each deal an additional 75 Corporeal damage.


Soul Stealer Your target and all other enemies within 30 feet of them suffer 800 damage and lose 125 Action Points.You gain 480 health and 125 Action Points.


Vision Of Domination When Vision Of Torment ends‚ you will regain 50 action points.


Gloom Of Night Surrounds your target with gloom for 15 seconds‚ dealing 133 Spirit damage every 3 seconds to him and all other enemies within 20 feet of him. Has a chance to cause a Miscast‚ damaging you and wiping out all of your Dark Magic!


Shadow Of Disaster Demonic Chill will now have a chance to react when your groupmates are struck by any attack‚ not just by melee attacks.


Absorb Vitality A Curse which deals 535 Corporeal damage to your target over 15 seconds‚ and heals you for all of the damage dealt.


Chilling Gusts Each pulse of Chillwind gains a 15% chance to deal an additional 75 Corporeal damage.


Hand Of Ruin You concentrate on your target for up to 6 seconds‚ repeatedly dealing 266 Spirit damage to him. This effect will end if you break your concentration or run out of action points. Has a chance to cause a Miscast‚ damaging you and wiping out all of your Dark Magic!


Crippling Terror Your target and all other enemies within 30 feet of them are Silenced and Disarmed for 7 seconds‚ making them unable to use melee‚ ranged‚ or magic abilities.This effect is not subject to diminishing returns.


Piercing Shadows

      • This ability is not yet implemented.


Black Horror Deals 250 Corporeal damage to your target and all other enemies within 20 feet of him‚ and reduces their Initiative by 50 for 10 seconds. Has a chance to cause a Miscast‚ damaging you and wiping out all of your Dark Magic!


Lengthening Shadows Increases the radius of Surging Pain and the range of Infernal Wave by 15%.


Disastrous Cascade You concentrate on your dark powers for up to 3 seconds‚ dealing 150 Spirit damage every second to all enemies within 30 feet as long as you maintain your concentration. Costs 30 action points per second. Has a chance to cause a Miscast‚ damaging you and wiping out all of your Dark Magic!


Neverending Agony Surging Pain will now cool down 2 seconds faster.


Shadow Knives You concentrate on your target for up to 6 seconds‚ repeatedly dealing 199 Corporeal damage to all enemies within 20 feet of him as long as you maintain your concentration. Costs 20 Action Points per second.


Paralyzing Nightmares All enemies within 30 feet suffer 1200 damage and become Rooted‚ making them unable to move for 7 seconds. This effect is not subject to diminishing returns.
