Rank in WAR is the equivalent of level in most RPGs and MMORPGs. Your characters rank measures their advancement through the game, and determines where they can go and who they can fight. There are a total of 40 (with 1 being the lowest) ranks to advance through, divided into four tiers of around ten ranks each. Ranks are increased by gaining experience from performing various actions in game such as completing quests, killing other players in RvR, or using the Tome of Knowledge.

There are also other separate types of rank which affect other aspects of the game:

• Renown rank - which are numbered from 1 - 80 and increased by participating in RvR combat (gaining renown).
• Guild rank - which is increased by performing actions with your Guild.
• City rank - which is increased by participating in content in your peaceful capital city.
