[edit] History of Lustria
Many thousands of years ago the Slann moved the continents and shifted Lustria into a position where plant and animal life would flourish. From the primitive reptiles inhabiting the continent, they created the Lizardmen who to this day inhabit the steaming jungles and temples.
The Skaven of Clan Pestilens, in about 0 IC; Caused a plague to infect the Lizardmen and waged a war upon them, they were only driven out by the intervention of the Old One Sotek.
The Norse adventurer Losteriksson, son of Lost Erik, was the first Old Worlder to land on the coast of Lustria and survive to tell the tale. After trekking inland in search of treasure, Losteriksson and his men left Lustria as rich men, only to return and settle down where they first landed, naming the settlement Skeggi, after Losteriksson's daughter, the first human to be born in the Lustria.
Another famous Lustrian adventurer is the Estalian Marco Colombo who despite his lack of language skills has managed to become very rich from stolen gold taken from Lustrian temples, becoming the Prince of the city of Trantio in Tilea.
Many centuries ago, before the discovery of Lustria by the Norse, a trading vessel from the Old World was caught in the fierce currents off the coast of Araby and swept into the swirling waters of Ulthuan. The wrecked ship was washed up months later on the eastern shore of Lustria. Though most of the crew had drowned or starved, a few still moved - not quite dead, but not entirely living either. For one of the passengers had been a vampire, who emerged from the rotting hulk to found a new realm of Undead in the New World.
The only other major habitations are those of the Old World settlers along the Eastern coast, though there is at least one group of Amazons living in the jungles.
In modern times, despite the Lizardmen's fierce attempts to defend their jungles and Temple cities at all costs, Dark Elves raid the continent from the north, and Old Worlder treasure-hunters and explorers penetrate the jungles from the east coast.
[edit] Geography
Lustria is perhaps the most isolated continent in the Warhammer World, being far to the south across the Great Ocean from Ulthuan, Far to the south and across the Blackspine Mountains from the northern New World and Naggaroth and thousands of miles south west of the Old World. The north of the continent is connected to the continent Naggaroth is on via a land bridge. Lustria's east coast is dense with reefs and sand banks, while the west coast is dominated by the rugged Turtle Isles.
The immense river Amaxon stems from the Spine of Sotek, a great volcanic mountain range which runs down the west coast of Lustria. The river flows into a huge delta before meeting the sea on Lustria's east coast.
The vast majority of Lustria is comprised of dense steaming jungles, and at higher altitudes, misty tropical rainforest which are full of exotic flora and fauna, including a disproportionate amount of insects and reptiles due to the abundance of water and extreme humidity. The heavy and humid air is detrimental to the lungs of warm blooded creatures such as mammals and Greenskins, though this has not stopped various Savage Orc tribes from inhabiting isolated areas of jungle. On the flatter plains of Lustria, vast deltas and wetlands are a common sight, while bogs and swamps often form in valleys in the highlands.
To the south, the jungles give way to flatter and dryer grassland called the Culchan Plains which are riveted with deeply carved mesa-canyons. This area is mostly uninhabited as Old Worlders have not yet begun to penetrate it and the Lizardmen prefer the jungle environment. The very southern tip of the continent is rocky, windy and desolate.
[edit] Wildlife
Lustria's wildlife seems to consist mostly of reptiles, insects and amphibians, in that order, many of which are poisonous and most of which are dangerous in some way. Lustria's wildlife includes:
- Carnosaurs; huge Tyrannosaurus-like reptiles which are the predators at the top of Lustria's food chain. Carnosaurs are somtimes ridden by Saurus.
- Stegadons; large lumbering Stegosaurus like plant eaters with vicious spikes and thick hides.
- Terradons; flying reptiles resembling Terrodactyls.
- Salamanders; lion-sized red-orange amphibians which spew forth fiery-acid.
- Cold Ones; horse-sized quadrupedal reptiles which serve as mounts for the Lizardmen.
[edit] Cities, settlements and locations of Lustria
- Amazon Isle is an isle in the mouth of the river Amaxon inhabited by a tribe of human warrior women called Amazons.
- Skeggi is a Norse settlement at the Northern coast of Lustria.
- Itza is the oldest of the Lizardmen cities and the first to have been founded by the enigmatic Old Ones. The Slann of the first spawning, as well as Skinks, Saurus and Kroxigors, were all created by the Old Ones so that they could participate in the building of Itza, each race being responsible for a separate aspect of the city's construction.
- Quetza is a ruined Lizardmen city which became infested by the Skaven of Clan Pestillens. From here, plagues spread virulently through the jungle, devastating many other cities, until the Skaven were forced to migrate by the appearance of the serpent god Sotek.
- Chaqua was the Lizardmen city where the rise of the serpent god Sotek was first prophesied. A great migration of Skinks spread the cult among the other cities.
- Hexoatl is the city to the north of the main area of Lustria in which the oldest living Slann, Lord Mazdamundi resides.
- The Vampire Coast, which is inhabited by the aforementioned undead, lies on the South-eastern coast of Lustria. Which is ruled by a ruthles vampire pirate named Luthor Harkon who is a mad vampire with an unknown blood line. He is the reason for the name "the vampire coast". There is much more to the history of the vampire coast and Luthor Harkon but has not been recorded by the professors of Nuln.
