Hey everyone!
As we mentioned before, the final stage of migrating HammerWiki over to the Wikia code is to migrate the GameWikis user database over to the main Wikia user database. This will allow you to use the same username and password to log in to any Wikia wiki, and will allow the Wikia staff, helpers, and janitors to better help you out whenever you need it. We recently moved WoWWiki's database and the process was relatively painless, so I believe it will be that way here as well. Here are a few things that you need to know:
- The migration is tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 5th.
- If your username conflicts with an existing Wikia user, your username will be prefixed with "GW-". For example, "KyleH" would become "GW-KyleH". A list of users with name conflicts can be found here.
- If your username is changed, your main User: and User_talk: pages will automatically be moved; however, this may happen at some point after the initial move. Subpages in the User: and User_talk: namespaces will not be automatically moved; however, if this becomes a significant problem, we may be able to figure out a way to bot the move for some users.
- Links, such as those from signatures, will not be updated throughout the wiki if your username changes. I suggest that the community decide whether or not redirects would be appropriate to maintain consistency.
- If you already have an account on Wikia with the same username as your HammerWiki username, make sure the email address is the same on both accounts. If the email addresses are the same, then the accounts will be merged, otherwise your HammerWiki account will be prefixed.
- If your username ends up prefixed and you don't like being "GW-Bob", you will be able to request that your username be changed after the merge. We will post details on how to do so after the merge is complete.
